On Thursday, August 6th, 12 days before my actual due date and 5 days before my scheduled c-section, I woke up with contractions coming 10 minutes apart. I took Lulu to Alisha's house and then drove myself to Labor and Delivery. I checked in at 4:00 p.m. and after about 1 1/2 hours of watching me, they started to prep me for surgery! That's a nervous smile...

Cody left his job in Salem (15 minutes past Provo) around 4:00 and arrived at the hospital just in time to get into his "lunch lady gear" as he called it and go into the operation room with me. There was traffic but thank Heaven he made it.

They started "gutting me like a fish" (another Cody phrase) at 6:00 p.m. and by 6:36, our little boy was here!

He weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long.

We had no idea what to name him for 2 whole days! This is right after surgery. My legs were completely numb. It's the weirdest thing to feel yourself telling your legs to move and no matter how strong you think mind over matter is, they won't move.

We were fully expecting our new little man to have low blood sugar like Lulu did and end up in the NICU but he was a boob-man from the minute he had the chance to latch on and was able to keep his blood sugar up! No NICU, no jaundice, no feeding problems! We earned this one after all we went through with Lulu.

Oakley and Logan came to meet him Sunday afternoon. Logan has been so excited to finally have a brother. This is an actual Logan smile, which we can never get out of him when we ask. Could have something to do with the teeth he inherited from his dad! We tell him all the time that after 4 years of braces, he'll have beautiful straight white teeth like his dad. :)

On Saturday morning, we finally came up with a name. Charlie Dustin Hurd. We were having a hard time settling on a first name but the night he was born, Lulu came running in the room to meet him and yelled, "Where's my baby brother, Charlie?!" How do we fight that? And Cody is very close to his big brother Dustin and felt like it was only right to have him be the namesake. The man teared up as he was texting the news to Dustin. I love him.

Here's the proud daddy. He said he would never do this if that were a baby girl. Daddies and their boys.

Here is Lulu with her baby brother. She adores him and has to be right there for every diaper change, bath, and feeding. She tells everyone she sees about him and then tells them that Charlie eats Mommy's boobs! Thanks Lulu!

This is us leaving the hospital. I came in with one bag and a pillow. How did THIS happen??

Here is the little man at one week old. He is one sleepy, content kid so far and I am just so completely in love with him!! I love the newborn stage and all the cuddles. Cody cleaned the house from top to bottom for me today. He stayed at the hospital all 4 nights with me on a cramped little couch and was such a help. I am so grateful for this little miracle that has come into our lives and for the blessing of his health. I never could've asked for more.
